Be Greedy, Be Safe

I came up with today's post after reviewing my final game of the night. It was a PvZ on Xel Naga. I wasn't able to get my pylon down to block his hatchery so he went hatch first. This in turn made me want to do an economy build myself so I could keep up. So I decided to go with a 1 gate expand.

The problem occurred when my probe died during the scout. I was only able to see that he put the hatch down, nothing else. The Zerg proceeded to build an immediate Roach Warren. He made  a total of 22 Drones... It was not an economy build. It was a trick build. He could have done a 1 base Roach rush but that is too obvious in the current meta game. So he put the hatch down and killed my probe, then went for the Roach rush.

Now the proper response when my probe dies and my scouting is limited would have been to play it safe and 3 gate expand. I may be behind in economy if he just drones up, but at least I won't die to a Roach/Ling all in.

So the take home message I got from this game was. Yes, I can play greedy, but only if I have the proper information. If not, I better be safe.

Also, don't let your probe die!

Eat the CHEESE!

I've always been on of those players that doesn't waste my time worrying about getting cheesed. I just always figured if they want a win like that, then whatever. But that was before I played the majority of my games on the ladder. Now I look at the whole picture as I want to move up from Diamond to Masters. I need to think about reducing my losses and increase my win ratio. So that made me think, what percentage am I losing to cheese? Then add, how often do I loose to an all-in?

"Stop losing to the stupid shit." That sounds like a pretty good motto. I'm willing to bet that if I can win the majority of games where I get cheesed or all-in. I WILL get Masters this season.

Vote for Show Match!

I saw a tweet this morning from @TumbaStarcraft about a show match between EGiNControL and Destiny which will apparently air tonight at 9pm EST on http://stim.tv/.

I also saw that Grubby played TLO this morning in Warcraft3 and Starcraft 2, which I also thought was a cool idea.

So this got me thinking about what would be some other cool show match ideas? Rivalries? Friends? Commentators? A few came to mind immediately for me. The new Korean additions EGPuma vs Liquid`Hero. Or another good TL vs EG would be Liquid`Seth vs EGiNconroL. Artosis vs Day9? Deezer vs CombatX?
